LOM_RSS Steven Downes has been working on LOM_RSS. In other words, a RSS feed that can incorporate LOM metadata.
Brian Sutherland, in this comment says:
“We see RSS_LOM as a format that can serve five functions:
- harvesting
- federated search result
- metadata packing slip (RSS encl. element)
- news
- linking collections to communities of practice, and communities of practice together by defining semantic networks of people who use the same objects frequently”
As he then says, combining existing information can make building the tools “kind of a pain”. The other pain, as far as I can tell, is ensuring that people use the metadata – as there is no point in having the tools, if people don’t generate the data in the first place.
