Glass orb with reflection of the landscape in it

BBC NEWS | Asia-Pacific | Papua New Guinea ‘set to implode’: Papua New Guinea is heading towards economic and social collapse and could be overrun by criminals, a new Australian report warns.

I just noticed this report on the BBC World news RSS feed that I look at occasionally. I spent 2.5 years in PNG, and while it wasn’t that stable, it certainly wasn’t that unstable overall either. They do have a lot of problems, and it seems that a lot are happening now. If economic & social problems weren’t enough, Manam is errupting again, and it seems that this time the Melanesian discoverer isn’t in the area to offer assistance, as it was last time it errupted. Manam, by the way, is a very typical volcano shaped island, just off the coast, a few hours along the coast from where I was based.
