The BBC are starting a year long (well, 9 months in reality) look at the diaries of disabled students starting university. They are each giving a diary entry weekly, about life as a disabled student. They have a range of disabilities – and equally a range of needs. Given that SENDA now requires educational establishments to accomodate the needs of all, it will be interesting to see how the students themselves see their needs being met.
I’m not sure if they were a self selected group, but it seems a little odd that of the 4 students they have picked, 2 are at Cambridge. However, it will be interesting to see how a university with a lot of ancient buildings – which I assume are listed, cope with the practical needs of physically disabled students.
