It’s Sign Language Awareness Week this week, and the BBC have got a page about it. As usual with the BBC, they have quite a few pages, not always linked to in the most logical way, so another page provides a set of useful links, including one to DeafSign, which has a rather nice “translator” to change words into finger spelling (though I couldn’t get it to work with Firefox).

Computers are an interesting medium to learn signing on, as the visual aspects clearly need to be seen – and, even more so than a book, placement (i.e. where the signs are made) and facial expression can be used effectively.
