Glass orb with reflection of the landscape in it

A free online service to organize your academic papers: This seems like a useful tool, especially if you are working on several different computers. It’s an online library, where you can store references for academic journals. They say:

CiteULike is a free service to help academics to share, store, and organise the academic papers they are reading. When you see a paper on the web that interests you, you can click one button and have it added to your personal library. CiteULike automatically extracts the citation details, so there’s no need to type them in yourself. It all works from within your web browser. There’s no need to install any special software.

One of the other bonuses that they suggest is the fact that you can see what other people who are interested in the same subject area as you are listing. Of course, it’s a critical mass thing for that particular aspect – if no-one else who is in your field has found the site, then you are less likely to find interesting papers.

The other problem that I have is that I have a very good online bookmarking service, in which I have lots of links – covering academic, interesting & personal ones – so while I am used to adding things into that, which would I add academic refs to. The fact that you can export the details to EndNote could be useful, though I have a ProCite database set up – not sure if you can go via EndNote to ProCite (we have EndNote at University, though as far as I can tell you can’t go from ProCite to EndNote – possibly because ProCite has more data. It might be possible though to go the other way)

However, I’ve signed up & added the URL to my bookmarks (the online one of course!), and will see how I get on.

Hmmm … just discovered a bit of a flaw. You can only add Abstracts/ full papers if they are on a site that’s supported. It seems that Innovate – an online journal about eLearning isn’t part of that list. Shame really, as I just found an interesting article there.
